About us
The Glass House, established in Kingston in 1972 by Sheila Marsh was taken over by its current owner, Lynda MacRae in 1999. The Glass House has had several “homes” – from 85 Princess Street in downtown Kingston to its current location at 991 Sydenham Road.
Traditionally, The Glass House was a retail store and studio set up to sell stained glass supplies and finished products. We still do that; however, we also offer numerous classes in traditional stained glass; as well as glass fusing, mosaics and jewellery. We also carry a large selection of finished items made by us or by local artisans; including stained glass suncatchers, panels, garden ornaments, jewellery, fused dishes, lamps, candleholders and stepping stones.
Our current location, a charming red brick farmhouse from the mid-1800’s, provides a comfortable and cozy atmosphere for visitors, students, staff. Come and explore the many rooms filled with unique and one-of-a-kind items for sale. The Glass House is a place where strangers become friends and friends gather to celebrate a retirement, a birthday or to share a laugh over a fun activity.Whether you are here for a class, to unwind (we call it “glass therapy”), to satisfy your glass addiction, get advice or chat, everyone is welcome. This is part of what makes The Glass House more than a store – it’s an amazing place that brings people and creativity together.
In the summer,we will often take our work outside onto the deck where we have a work table surrounded by gardens. We try not to get too distracted by the birds and the sound of the waterfall in the nearby pond… J
In addition to working with contractors, architects, interior designers and numerous kitchen and bathroom companies, The Glass House also supports numerous local charities and has done so for many years. We get great inspiration, joy and satisfaction from all of the people we meet and serve through the Glass House and we hope to continue to do so for many years to come!
