Cake & Loaf Bakery Logo in Fused & Stained Glass

November 2, 2011

We get all sorts of interesting requests for custom work here at The Glass House!  Recently, we were asked to create a stained glass piece for an amazing bakery in Hamilton, Ontario.  Cake & Loaf has a unique and clever logo which was a little bit of a challenge to translate into glass; however, with the assistance of a Taurus 3 glass saw and a glass kiln, we were able to produce what we think is a pretty decent replica.  If you are in the Hamilton area, be sure to check this bakery!!  Info available at http://cakeandloaf.ca .

‘New and Exciting’ in Stained Glass?

August 9, 2011

One question we often get asked is “what’s new and exciting in stained glass?”

While glass fusing has become very popular over the last 5 years; we are noticing that more and more people are interested in and doing “glass on glass” mosaic work.   What this involves is finding a window or picture frame (older frames tend to have more character and can be found in flea markets, “re-stores”, garage sales and sometimes even in your own basement or attic), re-finishing the frame if necessary or if desired, installing clear glass in the frame if it doesn’t already have some and then comes the fun part – using your imagination and a selection of stained glass to create a colourful design.  The glass is cut and or broken into various shapes and then glued to the glass in the frame.

The finished piece can be grouted or not; depending on your preference.  It is a great way to use up bits of stained glass so they don’t go to waste; and even a glass novice can create beautiful work!  Check out our class information for upcoming “Glass on Glass Mosaic Window” courses!

Welcome to Our New Website!

Finally, our new website is up and we are excited about the new look and the new features!  You can view and sign up online for classes, browse updated photos and purchase patterns of exclusive stained glass designs by The Glass House.  Over the years, our customers have often suggested that we make available for purchase the patterns that we have created for various stained glass panels; and now we have done that!  Each pattern packet contains 2 copies of the full-size paper pattern, a colour picture of the finished piece and suggestions for types and quantities of glass.  We have started with a few patterns and will continue to add new ones on a regular basis!

When you come into The Glass House, tell us what you think of the new website.  As a “thank you”, we will give you an Aqua Flow System – a handy little accessory for your grinder that replaces the grinder sponge and helps to keep an even flow of water to your bit while grinding glass.  Just mention the words “Aqua Flow” and give us some feedback on the new site.  Please note that this offer is “one per household” and is available while quantities last; and please make note of the type of grinder you are using (e.g. Inland Wizling, Glastar Diamond Star, etc.) so that we can give you the appropriate Aqua Flow System.
